Open Arms Free Clinic Lives United

“With enough space, equipment, and volunteers you can build a practice out of anything.”  These are the aspiring words of Sara Nichols, the Executive Director of Open Arms Free Health Clinic located in Elkhorn, Wisc.  Open Arms has enrolled more than 2,000 patients in the Walworth County community, most of whom are living at the 200 percent poverty level and possess absolutely no health insurance. Although this reality seems daunting, Nichols and her staff have provided a glimmer of light in the form of a free health clinic; available to anybody who needs medical attention and may not have the resources to afford it.  Open Arms is so diverse that they have the equipment to deal with just about any form of medical requirement.

With the help of 200 active volunteers, medical assistance spans from dental practitioners to counseling professionals and from ophthalmologists to standard pediatric physicians.

An astonishing 500,000 dollars worth of donated medicine is available behind the counter.  “It’s truly incredible how far the clinic has been able to stretch each dollar donated by the people of Walworth County,” Nichols stated appreciatively, “there is nothing worse than the feeling of knowing we couldn’t do all that we know is possible, and these possibilities increase everyday.”

The United Way of Walworth County strongly advocates the importance of education, income, and health initiatives within the Walworth County community.  By supporting Open Arms and their determination to initiate healthcare accessibility for all, the medical needs of those less fortunate may cease to be overlooked.  Through the money donated to the United Way of Walworth County, Open Arms has had the chance to implement and grow in different areas that otherwise may not have been afforded.  Each dollar donated truly makes a world of difference.  To book an appointment or if you’re interested in volunteering with Open Arms Free Health Clinic visit http://openarmsfreeclinic.org or visit them on Facebook.
